Everyone has a favorite sport, but not many know the history behind their favorite. In this series, we try to present the history of some of the major sports in the world. We proceed from our previous article. Today we cover another sport: Ice Hockey.
Ice hockey as its name suggests is a team sport played on ice with players using sticks to push the puck into the opposing team’s goal. Ice hockey requires a layer of seasonal ice and reliable. This is one reason why it is very popular in the northern United States, Canada and the Nordic countries.
There have been accounts of the ancient ice hockey as a game (a ball or disc) is played between the Mi’kmaq first nation in Canada. Games soldiers play hockey in Kingston and Halifax during the mid-1850 is the first budget of the recorded game.
