Ice Hockey In North America

When many Americans think of Canada they think of ice hockey. But the origins of hockey is returning to northern Europe in Britain and France. Although the sport of field hockey dates back to ancient Egypt and Greece, the first evidence of ice hockey, only goes back about 500 years. It is speculated that those who played field hockey sports adjusted so they can play during the winter cold and frost. The word probably comes from the French word hockey “hypo” meaning “bent stick” or “shepherd’s crook.”

Hockey was the first time in North America, the way the British soldier, who came to Nova Scotia. They are organized into teams and played each other.
